BEND, Ore – If you were in town last weekend you know that Bend was dedicated as Oregon’s latest Purple Heart City during a special ceremony at the Brooks Park Bend Heroes Memorial in Bend.

Great Honor

The ceremony which featured an audience of over 100 people also included veterans of the Iraq, Afghanistan and Vietnam Wars when a Purple Heart sign was also presented to the city.

The sign will be displayed somewhere in town for people to see when they drive into Bend, and there are currently well over 900 similar signs across the United States which honor the close to 2 million Purple Heart Recipients.

Did you know that 110 men and women from Bend have awarded the Purple Heart over the years after sacrificing their lives in wars spanning WW1 through the Afghanistan war? You can find their names engraved on the Veterans Peace Monument right here in Bend.
