Deschutes County Homeowners Prepare For Increase in Property Taxes
With fall in Bend Oregon quickly approaching, homeowners can expect to open their mail boxes towards the end of October to find their property tax bills, and they can also expect find a sizeable increase in their property tax bills from what they received last year.

Preparing Homeowners In Advance

Scott Langton, the County Assessor for Deschutes County knew that homeowners in the area would be in for a “sticker shock”, when it comes to their property taxes, and he decided to prepare area homeowners in advance for the increase by recording this video and uploading it to YouTube.

In the video Langton said: “Please don’t shoot the messenger, but some of you may be in for a bit of a surprise when you receive your property tax bill in the fall”.

Langton’s video is almost eight minutes long and explains in detail why homeowners in Deschutes County area can expect to see an increase in their property taxes and he offers area tax payers this graph: http://www.deschutes.org  so they can get an estimate to see just how much they can expect their property taxes to increase by.

Although the average homeowner might not be happy with an increase in their property taxes, Langton sounded hopeful that his efforts to warn homeowners would prepare them in advance by saying: “It would be nice if people were aware of the potential increase on their property before they get their tax bill,” he said. “We don’t want anyone to be surprised.”
