BEND – Thanks to recent data from the U.S. Census Bureau we know that home sales jumped during May.

There were 546,000 single family homes sold; an increase of 2.2 percent compared to April, and an increase of close to 20 percent compared to the same period last year.

Existing Home Sales Increase

Although we saw the sale of new single family homes increase during the month of May we also saw the sale of existing homes, condos, town homes and co-ops increase 5.1 percent from the month of April, and close to 10 percent compared to the same time last year.

The sale of existing single family homes have now reached their highest levels since November of 2009 and most economists including Lawrence Yun, chief economists with the National Association of Realtors, are encouraged about the solid gains the Real Estate market is enjoying right now.

Tight Inventory Still Remains a Problem

Yes, the sales of new and existing single family homes is great but, tight inventory still remains a problem nationwide as homes are selling fast and price growth in Real Estate markets nationwide like Bend, Oregon continues to head to double digit appreciation.
